Beyond Method 6 ereaders

I truly believe that ereaders will eventually find their way into the library. But there is still a "cloud of mystery" on how the ereaders will be used by our patrons.  Currently, we have ebooks through Gale and ebooks that were purchased through Follett. With the Follett ebooks only one patron at a time can read the book and the books are not able to be downloaded. With Gale, more than one patron can read the ebook.

I have looked at project Gutenberg a few years ago and found it very easy to use. I did a search for Phantom of the Opera and if I wanted to download the book to my Kindle I would have been able to do so.  Here is the link for the Phantom http://www.gutenberg.org/files/175/175-h/175-h.htm

Method 5 Social tagging

Enjoyed looking at all the different book sites.  I have a Shelfari account and just added more books to my book shelf. I posted my shelf on my school blog, but was unable to find the code to post it on this blog page.

Method 3 Maps and more maps

Google Maps, so much fun to play with.  One idea for a book talk that students could do using google maps would be to map out the journey of one of the Characters in either a historical or realistic genre.  Historical non fiction would also lend itself to making a map. Get for sixth graders who study geography and maps.

Method 2 Personal pages

Personal pages are very helpful in keeping me organized. I have a personal IGoogle page; however, I have a tendency to forget about it and really don't use it much. It would be great if I good set up an I Google page for my school library, but this is blocked for students by the district. Teachers would be able to access the page under their login but not the students.

Avatars

Okay I have created my Avatar and looked at the links.  I found that my virus software would not allow zwinky.com or the other free avatar download to be downloaded as it was recognized as ad-ware. So I went to Yahoo Avatars and found that Yahoo Avatars is not supported by Google Chrom so I had to download Firefox. Once I downloaded Firefox I was able to create an avatar; however, I do not see any where on the avatar page where I can download the avatar to my blog. I can place it on my facebook page only if I give Yahoo permission to see all my settings, which I did not do.  So I am a little frustrated.
